Sunday may be Mother’s Day, but Saturday was also a holiday of sorts; it was Amtrak’s National Train Day, and there were celebrations and events all over the country.
On “16 Saturday Morning,” News Center 16 chatted with actor Taye Diggs about his involvement in National Train Day and the event he is hosting in Washington D.C.
In Niles, folks headed to the historic Michigan Central Railroad Station – the site of many film and movie shoots over the years.
National Train Day is geared to celebrate the impact of the train on our country, communities and the mode of transportation it provides.
The event is celebrated at stations and museums all over, even where you might not think.
Local event organizer J.R. Valderaz says, “It’s being celebrated all across the country including in states where Amtrak service is not there. They’re doing this in Hawaii and Alaska too.”
Other train celebrations are taking place in Holland, St. Joe, Dowagiac, Jackson, and Detroit.
