Michigan will receive more than $161 million in federal funds for high speed rail projects, U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, both D-Mich., announced. More than 90 percent of the funding will go to the development of a 135-mile high speed corridor between Dearborn and Kalamazoo.
Additionally, a West Detroit connection project to service high speed rail and the Ann Arbor-Detroit commuter rail will receive $7.9 million, and $3.2 million will go to planning for the Chicago- Detroit High Speed Rail Corridor. The funds for the Michigan Department of Transportation are awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation.
