A driver, allegedly blinded by the sun while traveling south on Helmer Road, today slammed into the side of a westbound Amtrak passenger train, according to Battle Creek police.
Though the car was totaled, the driver was conscious when officers arrived at the scene about 2:24 p.m.
An Air Care helicopter flew the driver to a Kalamazoo hospital. A name was not immediately available.
The Amtrak train continued traveling westbound, unaware that it had been hit, according to police.
